DAY 1) Chiang Mai – Lisu Tribe – Chiang Dao

• Pick up from hotel in Chiang Mai - head out of the city, optional visit to an elephant sanctuary and/or bamboo rafting.
• Continue north into the countryside - visit a Lisu hill tribe village in Chiang Dao, learn about the Lisu culture and way of life.
• Option for short trek/nature walk with a local Lisu guide to learn about how they farm and live with nature.
• Visit a terraced limestone waterfall where you can play in the waters.
• Local dinner with a Lisu hill tribe family.
• Overnight at a Lisu hill tribe homestay or local guesthouse.

DAY 2) Doi Angkhang – Kayan Long Neck Tribe - Hilltribe Homestay

• After breakfast, drive up Doi Angkhang mountain, a cluster of peaks and valleys that form a mountain range that borders Myanmar - Enjoy the stunning vistas on the way up.
• Doi Angkhang is home to colourful minorities such as the Palaung and Lahu hill tribe - Visit their villages, where these ethnic groups still live in bamboo stilt houses and believe in the spirit world - We will have the chance to talk to them and learn about their culture and way of life.
• Visit an outlook point which overlooks the mountainous Thai-Myanmar border - descend Doi Angkhang and then we will continue our journey north to Thaton.
• On the way we will stop to explore local life (roadside markets, areas of natural beauty etc.)
• Visit a Kayan Long Neck tribe family - You will have the chance for cultural immersion, with the family, and to learn about their way of life as refugees in Thailand.
• Option for short trek with the Karen hill tribe - to learn about the local ecology, and how the hill tribes live with nature - enjoy preparing a traditional dinner with local dishes.
• O/n at Kayan Long Neck Tribe homestay or local hotel.

DAY 3) Mae Salong - Golden Triangle - Chiang Rai

• After breakfast, we will head up the rolling hills of Mae Salong. The Chinese Village of Mae Salong is home to descendents of the Kuomintang party that fled communist rule in China - Located nearby the Myanmar border, today it is famous for its terraced tea plantations on the mountainsides and Oolong tea production - You will have the chance to learn about tea production and sample local tea.
• Continue to Chiang Saen, visit the Golden Triangle (the meeting point of Thailand/Laos/Myanmar on the Mekong River).
• Head to Chiang Rai to visit the tourist highlights; White Temple, Black House, Blue Temple.
• Drop off at hotel or airport in Chiang Rai.
