Our Responsible Tourism Policy

All our trips and services are based around the following responsible tourism principles

  • Preserving the natural environment, culture and local way of life
  • Ensuring the economic benefits of tourism goes directly to local people
  • Allowing tourism to add value to communities through cultural and knowledge exchange
  • Allowing tourism to contribute to sustainable development so that communities can become self-sufficient
  • Minimising the negative impacts of tourism
  • Ensuring workers are paid and treated fairly
  • Explaining to tourists about the local culture and customs and ensuring these are respected
  • Education and raising awareness of the socio-economic issues of the area
  • Minimising waste and interference with natural surroudings and villages by taking small groups
  • Varying routes and village destinations to minimise impact to the environment and spread income amongst families
  • Using recycled material where possible.  For example our office is built using recycled wood and non-scarce resources
  • We run several community based projects: Local Youth Tour Guide Training Program, Income generation for hilltribe families via homestays and handicrafts, recruitment of foreign volunteers for hilltribe schools

Our Sustainable Development Projects

Local Youth Tour Guide Program

We provide training for local youths who want to become tour guides and practise their English. They accompany us on trips to gain hands-on experience whilst learning about the importance of preserving their land and culture and how to carry our responsible tourism.

Income Generation for hilltribe families

We have setup homestays in hilltribe villages which acts as a source of supplemental income for families. They not only benefit financially, but learn a lot through cultural exchange with foreigners. We also facilitate silver and cotton workshops held by hilltribe artisans. Along with earning an income through this it also helps to preserve these traditional handicrafts and techniques which are in danger of being lost. We also try to find a market for these handicrafts, promote and sell them.

Recruitment of foreign volunteers

We are always looking for volunteers to come and teach at the hilltribe schools. The children benefit immensely from being able to practise their spoken English with volunteers whilst gaining exposure to new ideas and ways of thinking. If you are interested in volunteering please see our volunteer page
