Located 1 hour North of Chiang Mai city, Chiang Dao is the third highest mountain in Thailand and Pat’s hometown. A quiet mountainous area relatively undiscovered by tourists, means it retains much of its original charm and way of life. Visit Chiang Dao cave at the base of the mountains where you can walk inside to see the limestone stalactites and stalagmites, and neighbouring Lisu and Lahu hilltribe villages. You are also invited to try traditional Shan food at Pat’s family house.
This is a nice day trip from Chiang Mai or can be combined in 2+ days continuing the next day onto Thaton and then to Chiang Rai.
